Our team of researchers specializes in measuring environmental variables using IoT technologies and wireless sensor networks. Our primary focus is on monitoring areas heavily affected by mining or industrial activities, which can have negative impacts on the environment and public health.
One of the most significant challenges we face, not only in the Ostrava region, is the combustion of mining waste heaps or landfills. These events often produce gases such as carbon monoxide, methane, and other hazardous substances.
In addition, our team is deeply involved in applying sensor technologies in the field of geotechnics and the stability of slopes and structures. In areas with historical or ongoing mining activities, ground destabilization often occurs, which can pose risks to buildings, infrastructure, and natural ecosystems.
We deploy highly precise dilatometers, inclinometers, and tensometers, which provide continuous data on stress and deformation states. These data are integrated into our IoT platform, allowing real-time analysis. The outputs from these measurements help prevent critical situations, such as landslides, subsidence, or structural failures. We collaborate with experts in geotechnics, construction, and crisis management to implement preventive measures.
Our innovative approaches to monitoring and data analysis not only contribute to environmental protection but also significantly enhance the safety of people and property in industrially affected areas. We believe that combining modern technologies with interdisciplinary collaboration is key to effectively addressing these complex challenges.
